Hussain Sharif, a prominent artist born in 1961 in Dubai, UAE, embarked on his creative journey by studying at the High Institute of Kuwait. Graduating with a degree in theatre design in 1986, he swiftly rose to the position of Head designer at Sharjah TV.
His artistic prowess blossomed as he began showcasing his captivating artworks in exhibitions across the UAE. Sharif's creations embody a unique form of expression, characterized by a methodical and forceful approach that pushes the boundaries of creative tension to its limits.
A visionary in his field, Sharif co-founded the Emirates Fine Arts Society alongside his brother Hassan Sharif. Throughout his illustrious career, he has participated in over 45 solo and collective shows, as well as 7 international art fairs.
Sharif's artistic philosophy is rooted in the belief that artists should not limit themselves to traditional materials, but rather embrace the rapid and transformative changes occurring in society. His innovative use of recycled materials, such as cups, plastic bottles, and metal cans in his artwork "Cars, Faces, or Cements" reflects his commitment to sustainability and the exploration of new mediums.
In Sharif's own words, "The streets of our cities are teeming with materials, and the sanctity of any individual material is lost. I find inspiration in working with recycled materials, breathing new life into discarded objects, and challenging the conventional notions of artistry."
His most recent retrospective exhibition at the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi this year was a captivating testament to his extraordinary talent and creative vision. Through his groundbreaking work and unwavering dedication to pushing artistic boundaries, Hussain Sharif continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world.
